Liposuction Fat Removal using Tumescent Liposculpture
Liposuction is a method of removing fat from parts of the body that have not responded to diet or exercise. It is not a method of losing weight, but a contouring procedure resulting in a loss of inches not pounds. Tumescent Liposculpture is a specialized liposuction procedure used by Dr. Levine that can be performed under local anesthetic, greatly reducing post-operative discomfort and recovery time.
Tumescent liposuction can be performed on the abdomen, hips, back, inner and outer thighs, knees, arms, face and neck. It is the safest form of liposuction because a local rather than a general anesthetic is used. Local anesthetic is injected into the treatment area causing the fat to become swollen or “tumescent.” The tumescence allows Dr. Levine to guide instruments called canulas under the skin more smoothly and more accurately. Cannulas are long, thin tubes that are attached to a suction machine. The cannula is inserted through tiny incisions and the fatty deposits are suctioned away.
Another benefit of tumescent liposuction is less post-operative bleeding and bruising. Most patients can resume their normal activities within two or three days after the procedure.
